What does an occupational therapist do for kids with emotional dysregulation?
An occupational therapist helps children with emotional dysregulation by identifying sensory and executive function factors that contribute to meltdowns or big feelings, and teaching both the child and parent co-regulation strategies, sensory tools, and routine structures that support a calmer nervous system. At Wanderlust Clinic, sessions are individualized and delivered via telehealth.
What is executive function coaching for children?
Executive function coaching for children focuses on building the brain skills needed for daily life: planning, organization, time management, task initiation, working memory, and emotional regulation. It is especially helpful for children with ADHD or neurodevelopmental differences. Wanderlust Clinic offers this via telehealth with Danielle Gutierrez, OT.
Do I need a referral to see a telehealth OT?
No referral is required to contact Wanderlust Clinic. You can book a free 20-minute consultation directly with Danielle to discuss whether OT sessions or parent education coaching are the right fit for your family.
Which states can Danielle provide occupational therapy in?
Occupational therapy is currently available to families physically located in Virginia and Florida, where Danielle is licensed. Parent coaching and education are general educational services rather than occupational therapy, and are available to families anywhere.
Does Wanderlust Clinic work with military families?
Yes. Danielle Gutierrez is a military spouse with over 10 years of overseas parenting experience and understands PCS moves, deployment, and raising children in a mobile military lifestyle. Parent coaching and education are available to military families wherever they are stationed. Licensed occupational therapy is limited to families located in states where Danielle holds an active license (currently Virginia and Florida).
What is parent education coaching for neurodiversity?
Parent education coaching at Wanderlust Clinic provides individualized, evidence-based strategies to parents of neurodiverse children; including those with ADHD, sensory processing differences, or emotional dysregulation. Rather than handing parents a generic plan, Danielle works through challenges together with the parent, adapting strategies to their family's specific schedule, capacity, and needs. Support is also available for parents who are navigating their own regulation challenges.
How can I help my child with sensory needs sleep better at night?
Children with sensory needs often struggle with bedtime because their nervous systems require specific input to downregulate. Strategies include a consistent sensory-calming routine, proprioceptive input before bed (heavy work, compression, deep pressure), limiting screen-based blue light, and understanding your child's individual sensory profile. Wanderlust Clinic offers both child OT sessions and parent coaching focused on bedtime regulation.
What is visual motor integration and why does it matter for kids?
Visual motor integration is the ability to coordinate visual information with body movement; it affects handwriting, copying from the board, catching a ball, and completing puzzles. Children who struggle with visual motor integration may be mistakenly seen as inattentive or clumsy. Occupational therapy can assess and address these challenges directly.
