Our policies
Clear expectations make space for the real work. These policies keep your child's care consistent and fair for every family on the schedule. Have a question about any of them? Just ask; we're happy to talk it through.

Scope of services & licensure
Danielle Gutierrez is a licensed occupational therapist in Virginia and Florida. To keep your care safe and compliant, it helps to understand the two different services offered here:
- Occupational therapy is licensed health care. Because OT licensure follows the client's location, OT is available only to families physically located in Virginia or Florida, where Danielle holds an active license.
- Parent coaching & education is general, evidence-informed guidance for parents. It is not occupational therapy, does not include assessment, diagnosis, or treatment of a specific child, does not create a therapist-patient relationship, and does not replace evaluation or treatment by a licensed provider in your state. Coaching and education are available to families anywhere.
Not sure which fits your family? Reach out and Danielle will help you figure out the right starting point.

Cancellation & rescheduling
Your appointment time is reserved just for your family, so we ask for as much notice as possible when plans change.
- 24+ hours' notice: reschedule or cancel at no charge; life happens, and this is always free.
- Less than 24 hours' notice: a late-cancellation fee may apply.
- Missed session with no notice (no-show): the session may be charged in full.
Whenever you can, switching to a different time that same week is always preferred over canceling; we'll do our best to find one.

Attendance & consistency
Occupational therapy and parent coaching work best when sessions are steady and predictable. Skills build session over session, and momentum matters; especially for kids.
- We ask families to aim for consistent weekly (or agreed-upon) attendance throughout your plan of care.
- If attendance drops off significantly over time, we'll check in together to adjust the schedule, the plan, or the cadence so it actually fits your life.
- Repeated missed sessions without notice may mean releasing a recurring time slot to another family on the waitlist.

Illness
Because sessions are delivered by secure video, a sniffle doesn't have to cancel your week; but rest comes first.
- If your child is feeling unwell but up for it, we can keep the telehealth session low-key and gentle, or shift the focus to parent coaching.
- If your child is too sick to participate, or simply needs to rest, just let us know and we'll reschedule; no late fee for genuine illness.
- Please reach out before the session start time whenever possible so we can plan accordingly.

Inclement weather & technology
Telehealth means weather rarely gets in the way; but power outages, storms, and internet hiccups happen, on either end.
- If a power or internet outage interrupts a session, we'll reconnect by phone or video as soon as we're both back online, or reschedule the remaining time at no charge.
- If severe weather, an emergency, or an outage affects Danielle's side, you'll be notified as early as possible and offered a new time.
- A short technical glitch in the first few minutes is never counted as a late cancellation; we'll always make the time up.
